MUIR, Bert. (Dubuque, IA, Aug. 13, 1921--Dubuque, IA, Aug. 9, 2012). The son of Samuel and Margaret (Grue) Muir, Bert served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 through 1946, in the United States, as well as overseas.

He was employed by Unique Balance Division of the S.H. Pomeroy Co., as vice-president and manager in the early years of his business career. He retired from INTERSTATE POWER COMPANY as treasurer and corporate secretary.

Muir was active in many community activities. He served as chairman and director of the United Way, director of the American Red Cross, president and director of the Alverno Housing Group, chairman of the board and director of the DUBUQUE SAVINGS AND LOAN ASSOCIATION, director of the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce, trustee of FINLEY HOSPITAL (THE), as well as a founding director of JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF THE HEARTLAND He was a long-time member of Rotary International.
