JULIEN WINDS. In 2013 Nicholas Bratcher became the director of instrumental music and associate professor of music at the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE. A wind player himself, he recognized that there were many opportunities for musicians to perform instrumental music, but not as many which focused on wind instruments.

He first established a double wind quintet and then created the opportunity for wind players to form a chamber ensemble performing music written for such groups. (1) Several chamber ensembles under the name of Julien Chamber Winds performed on November 14, 2014 at the University of Dubuque's Blades Chapel. The first performance of the full Julien Winds occurred on November 8th, 2015 in Jansen Hall at CLARKE UNIVERSITY. (2)

In four years Julien Winds featuring an estimated forty players including undergraduate college students, music educators, and professional musicians, performed several concerts around the community and a performance at Carnegie Hall in June 11, 2018. (3)

In 2017 Bratcher accepted a position of director of bands and assistant professor of music at California State University San Bernandino. (4)
