DEROUIN, Herman "Babe." (Eau Claire, WI- ). Coach and athletic director. Derouin capped a forty-eight year career in coaching and educational administration as the first athletic director at STEPHEN HEMPSTEAD HIGH SCHOOL. During his career, Derouin, a graduate of LORAS COLLEGE, taught and coached in a number of high schools in Wisconsin and Iowa.

Derouin came to Hempstead while the building was still under construction and students had to go to school half days at DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL. Hempstead's first athletes to attain prominence while Derouin was athletic director were on the baseball team coached by Dick Core, with the football team soon to follow.
