Welcome to Encyclopedia Dubuque, the revised and expanded online form of the popular reference book Dubuque: The Encyclopedia written by Randolph W. Lyon. Encyclopedia Dubuque features more than 1,878 images and over 3,251 articles relating to the history and culture of Dubuque, Iowa.

Special appreciation goes to several people in the development of this site. Michael May of the Carnegie-Stout Public Library saw the potential, developed the initial application to the city council, and pursued the awards we have received. Robert Joseph Reding love of Dubuque history and eagerness to share his collections of Dubuque memorabilia initially made most of the visual portion of this website possible. In the months since this website opened in October 2009, we have had outstanding community support.
