Opened on April 15, 1973 in the building which once housed CORNERSTONE at 197 Jones, the Center was the idea of Cornerstone officials Mike Brooks and Sue Huehergarth. They formed DYS, Inc., a non-profit corporation to establish the Center which would serve as a place for young people to time without spending a lot of money.
