T. F. PHILLIPS. CO. Opened around the beginning of the twentieth century, T. F. Phillips and Company announced in 1902 that it would be distributing the first installment Onward and Upward, by Archbishop Keane. The book contained "gems" from the archbishop's sermons arranged so that the reader could find one for every day of the year. (1)
A manufacturer of altars and other church furniture, the company shipped goods to all areas of the United States. By 1913, however, the firm was unable to pay its bills and was placed in receivership. Several large orders, however, had been received and it was hoped the firm could be saved. (2) The hopes were not realized and all material assets of the company including stock, material and machinery were listed for sale in December, 1913. (3)
The 1909 Dubuque City Directory located this business at 280 Main.
The 1911-12 Dubuque City Directory listed 260 Main.
The 1913 Dubuque and Dubuque County Directory stated that this business was located at 135 Valeria.
The 1918 Dubuque Classified Business Directory listed 121 Main.
