HOELSCHER, Larry
HOELSCHER, Larry. (Iowa Falls, IA- ). An industrial arts teacher at STEPHEN HEMPSTEAD HIGH SCHOOL, Hoelscher compiled one of the longest records of service to the DUBUQUE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION. He served six years as its vice-president, twelve years as a building representative, and was chairperson on several occasions of its teacher rights and negotiations committees. He was repeatedly an elected representative to its state and national conventions. Hoelscher also served as moderator, search committee member, and chairperson of the Buildings and Ground Committee for SUMMIT CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST.
In 1997 students at Hempstead with their vehicle "The Predator" were the first locally to qualify for the national Electrathon, a race designed to test the speed and efficiency of student-built, battery-operated vehicles. The team members were students of Hoelscher in his engineering concepts class.
