ALTMAN, Franc W. (Bellevue, IA, July 22,1860--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 20, 1924). Educated in Dubuque schools, Altman began his business career working two years for the DIAMOND JO LINE. In 1875 he began working for PETER KIENE AND SON where he remained.

Altman organized and promoted the Eastern Iowa Electric Company for many years before selling it. One of the owners of the Dubuque Water Works when it was purchased by the city, Altman was also involved in the construction of the SECURITY BUILDING. He raised registered Hereford cattle on his Sleepy Hollow farm.

Altman served as president of the Union Electric Company before it became the Dubuque Electric Company and was one of the first presidents of the DUBUQUE CLUB. He was survived by his son, Franc K. ALTMAN.
