HINDS, Franklin. (VT--May, 1885). After working on the Erie Canal, Hinds moved to Dubuque in 1855. He was one of the directors of the Dubuque and Minnesota Steamboat Company and in 1857 entered the hardware business in the firm of WESTPHAL AND HINDS. In 1863 he was one of the founders of the FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF DUBUQUE.
