CORE, Richard. (Fort Dodge, IA-- ). Coach. Core became a member of the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT in 1964 and was employed as a math teacher and coach at STEPHEN HEMPSTEAD HIGH SCHOOL. As the school's baseball coach, Core led teams to state championships in 1974, 1978, 1983, and 1984. His teams earned ten Mississippi Valley Conference Championships. Through the 1997 season, Core had established a record of 608 wins.

President of the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association in 1984, he was named to the Iowa Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1985. Core was named Mississippi Valley Coach of the Year ten times and was the State Coach of the Year in 1975, 1979, and 1985.
