COX, Walter G. (Dubuque, IA, Mar. 28, 1847--Dubuque, IA, July 16, 1936). Cox attended the public schools until the age of sixteen and then clerked three years for Stuart & Emerson, one of Dubuque's first tobacco merchants. He then moved to East Dubuque, Illinois and bought and sold grain until 1869.
Cox established his partnership with Dorrance Dixon MYERS in 1870 to form one of Dubuque's most successful tobacco manufacturing companies, MYERS-COX COMPANY. Cox also served as a director of the HIGH BRIDGE Company.
