HOPPE, Fred
HOPPE, Fred. (Burscheidt, Germany, Mar. 3, 1836--Unknown). Director, Iowa Conservatory of Music. Following the CIVIL WAR, Hoppe taught music in Dubuque and founded the Iowa Conservatory of Music. Elected the leader of the GERMANIA BAND, he continued as its leader when it merged with the Great Western Band.
Hoppe held the position of organist at ST. MARY'S CHURCH for three years and beginning in 1876 served in the same capacity at SECOND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. He was married in 1857 to Laura Hager of St. Louis; they had six children.
