COMMITTEE FOR THE CELEBRATION OF THE PRESIDENT'S BIRTHDAY
COMMITTEE FOR THE CELEBRATION OF THE PRESIDENT'S BIRTHDAY. A local fundraising effort sponsored by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, Inc., the event annually held a "circulating dance" in four ballrooms. In 1940 these sites included the MASONIC TEMPLE, KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS, ELKS CLUB and the AMERICAN LEGION HALL. The purchase of a ticket allowed a couple to attend one or all of the sites.
Half of the money realized from the sale of tickets remained in Dubuque to aid those stricken with the disease. The foundation maintained research centers around the United States including the University of Iowa.
