LITTLE FREE LIBRARY
LITTLE FREE LIBRARY. The Little Free Library Movement was begun in Hudson, Wisconsin by Tod Bol as a tribute to his mother, a school teacher and book lover. He mounted a container shaped like a schoolhouse on a post in his yard. From this, books could be taken and left by residents of the community. The nonprofit activity continues to offer free books housed in small containers to people in communities in the United States and worldwide.
Deb Hendricks, a native of Dubuque and development editor at McGraw-Hill, installed what is believed the first Little Free Library in Dubuque at her home at 290 N. Algona in April, 2012. People can access books of various genres and are asked to leave one behind.
