HOPE EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH. Members of the Dubuque congregation began meeting together in 1979 to write their constitution, elect a body to govern, and find a place to worship. The gymnasium of EISENHOWER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL was made available on a month-to-month basis. The first service was held on May 6, 1979, with an attendance of sixty-seven people.

Church construction began in November 1979, with the establishment of a building fund. Three acres of ground on John F. Kennedy Road near the YMCA Camp were purchased. Groundbreaking occurred on November I, 1982, and the congregation moved into its church, a multi-purpose building, on May 3, 1982.
