DUBUQUE BENEVOLENT SOCIETY. The Society was founded in 1873 and its constitution amended in 1893. For annual dues of seven dollars and and one dollar assessment in the case of the death of a participant, the organization paid sick benefits and death benefits to members. In its first twenty-nine years, the Society paid out $52,000.
