HERR, King. (Cedar County, IA, Sept. 6, 1907- ). National coordinator of rural development for the Service Corps of Retired Executives. With his move to Iowa City, Dubuque lost one of its most intense fund-raisers. Herr was the last of the active charter members of Dubuque's Service Corps of Retired Executives.

Herr's participation in Dubuque civic organizations included service as treasurer of the NATIONAL RIVERS HALL OF FAME, DUBUQUEFEST, and the Dubuque Artist Guild. He was the district governor for Rotary Club International and served on the district governor's advisory board. His fundraising skills were responsible for successes with the Y.M.C.A, VISITING NURSE ASSOCIATION, Alumni Association of the University of Iowa, BETHANY HOME, DUBUQUE ART ASSOCIATION, DUBUQUE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, DUBUQUE FIVE FLAGS CENTER, and the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE.

For his widespread contributions, Herr was the recipient of the 1972 Distinguished Civic Service Award presented by the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. He received the District Advocate Award from the Small Business Administration in 1981and the Outstanding Volunteer Fund Raiser Award from the Eastern Iowa National Society for Fund Raising Executives in 1988.
