GIBBS, C. R. (Unknown-Unnown) Gibbs was a son of the late R.J. Gibbs who came to Dubuque in 1857. R.J. Gibbs had charge of putting in the Dubuque water works. He was also extensively engaged in the grain business here for many years and shipped the first carload of grain over the ILLINOIS CENTRAL RAILROAD. He died in March, 1875, leaving a widow and four sons, all living here.

The firm of GIBBS AND COMPANY, livery, sale and boarding stable, at 139 Fourth Street was started in 1876.
