CHAPMAN, John S.
Chapman, John S. (Los Angeles, CA-- ). Physician. In 1992, Chapman was named "Internist of the Year" by the Iowa Clinical Society of Internal Medicine. Chapman came to Dubuque as a medical resident to assist Dr. Gene Coffman and returned after completing his residency to join Coffman in practice. In 1960 the two doctors, joined by Dr. J. Robert Gilloon, established the Dodge Street Internists. This later was renamed DUBUQUE INTERNAL MEDICINE.
Chapman served as past president and in 1992 was chairman of its building committee. The senior physician at Dubuque Internal Medicine, Chapman served as the past medical director of the Dubuque city ambulance service and past president of the Dubuque Medical Society and the Iowa Society of Internal Medicine. He led the city to become one of the first in Iowa to obtain an advanced life-support system. Active in the FINLEY HOSPITAL Foundation and the VISITING NURSE ASSOCIATION, he was president of HOSPICE OF DUBUQUE COUNTY when it became Medicare certified.
