WOOTTON, Ignatus E. (Kentucky, Apr. 22, 1810--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 1, 1892). Second county treasurer of Dubuque County. Wootton, one of Dubuque's earliest settlers, moved here on October 10, 1832. He held the local offices of constable and deputy sheriff before his election as treasurer.

Before coming to Dubuque, Wootton assisted in the survey of the Half-Breed Tract in far southeastern Iowa, the first surveying done in the state. He later worked for the KNAPP-STOUT LUMBER COMPANY.
