GORDON, Charles Chester. (Plainfield, WI, Aug. 12, 1870-Dubuque, IA, Mar. 15, 1945). Machinist. Gordon, the proprietor of the Gordon Machine Shop at 445 White Street, is acknowledged as the designer of the first gasoline boat engine on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER. His invention led to the development of a multi-million-dollar industry and the rise of regattas that featured motorboat racers from throughout the United States.
