CARPENTER, William. (Dubuque, IA-- ). Athlete. Beginning his interest in weight lifting in the fourth grade, Carpenter was able to bench press over 300 pounds by the time he reached high school. Competing professionally in 1994, he was ranked No. 1 in the world in the junior division for ages 23 and under by Powerlifting USA magazine.

On April 27, 1997, Carpenter was crowned a world champion at the World Powerlifting Association Championships. He won the 220-pound weight class bench press title performing a lift of 520 pounds.
