EGYPTIAN REVIVAL ARCHITECTURE
EGYPTIAN REVIVAL ARCHITECTURE. Rare type of architecture. Flourishing only briefly in the United States, Egyptian Revival found popularity from 1830 to 1850. Most of the buildings using the style were often associated with eternity---churches, prisons, or cemeteries.
Characteristics of the style include window frames that narrow toward the top, columns that appear to be swollen like bundles of grain, use of the sun disk or vulture symbol, and a roof line that curves out over the walls. (Photo Courtesy: http://dubuque-tour.tripod.com)
