MATTES, Joseph Edward "Jed." (Dubuque, IA, 1952--New York, NY, July 24, 2003). Mattes was a literary agent who aided the careers of several authors including Michelangeo Signorile, Urvashi Vaid, Armistead Maupin, psychotherapist Betty Berzon, Eric Marcus, and Gabriel Rotello. He also represented such well known authors as Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seus), Bill Bryson, and playwright Michael Frayn.
