JOHNSON, Arthur C. (Rock Rapids, IA-- ). Completing his education with a course at the Cedar Rapids, Iowa Business College, Johnson became an assistant cashier at the Commercial Bank in Maxwell, Iowa. He then worked as a clerk on several railroads before resigning to become the secretary of the Manchester Lumber Company.

In the spring of 1900 he ended his work in Manchester and moved to Dubuque as a department manager of the STANDARD LUMBER COMPANY. He remained with this company for five years before helping to organize the CENTRAL LUMBER AND COAL COMPANY. He served in this company as secretary and director.
