DUBUQUE AMBASSADORS. In 1974 the organization was revived and expanded a project to welcome new businesses and thank businessmen who improved existing businesses. A goodwill group at the time of about thirty members of the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE and the DUBUQUE INDUSTRIAL BUREAU, the organization planned on calling on forty local businesses deserving recognition. The first six business were to be visited by about twenty-five Ambassadors traveling around the city in a motor home on loan from BIRD CHEVROLET. Managers of each business visited were given a 12-inch walnut key inscribed with the business name.

The Ambassadors planned to visit six businesses each week until they caught up and then would visit when a new business opened. The organization would focus on an area with a 10-mile radius from Dubuque. (1)
