ROUSE, Hammond. (Penfield, Monroe Co., TN, Oct.15, 1824-lndependence, IA, May 16, 1885). Proprietor of IOWA IRON WORKS. Rouse began the first iron works manufacturing business north of St. Louis, Missouri, on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER. He came to Dubuque in 1851 and became an associate of Jesse P. FARLEY. In 1858 Rouse took full control of the company as the senior member of ROUSE AND DEAN.

Rouse retired from the business in 1879 when his company was one of the largest in the West.
