SINSINAWA DOMINICANS, O.P.
SINSINAWA DOMINICANS, O.P. The Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation of the Most Holy Rosary was ounded by Father Samuel MAZZUCHELLI in August 1849, at Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. The Sisters began work in the Dubuque diocese in 1901. They furnished the faculty in 1950 for the new Dubuque parish of Saint Joseph's.
In 1949 Saint Dominic's Villa for retired and infirm sisters was opened on KELLY'S BLUFF behind ST. RAPHAEL'S CATHEDRAL. It was located on land purchased by Father Mazzuchelli and later known as Mazzuchelli Heights. Although the duties of the Order have included parish work and a mission to Bolivia, the mission of the Sisters has remained primarily educational.
