MCDONALD, Robert Delos. (Dubuque, IA, Jan 30, 1931- ). Chairman of the board and chief executive officer of A.Y.MCDONALD MANUFACTURING COMPANY. McDonald joined the internationally known manufacturing firm in 1956 as a salesman. He held the position of sales manager from 1961-1964 and then through a series of advancements rose to the position of president in 1985. He became chairman of the board and chief executive officer in 1987.

McDonald was a member of the board of directors of the A. Y. McDonald Manufacturing Company Charitable Foundation, STONEHILL CARE CENTER, DUBUQUE RACING ASSOCIATION, and the DUBUQUE BOYS' CLUB.

A direct descendant of Andrew Young MCDONALD, he took special interest and was a co-founder of the Save Iowa's Civil War Monument Foundation. Built in 1906 for $150,000, the Iowa memorial resides in Vicksburg National Park for the public to view. The memorial displays six bronze scenes depicting the actions of Iowa soldiers during the Vicksburg campaign and a large steed with an unnamed soldier stands in the middle of the display.
