LYONS, Michael E. (St. Louis, MO, 1861-Dubuque, IA, Dec. 1,1932). MAYOR. Lyons, elected alderman in 1904 and again in 1906, became the city auditor and was re-elected to that position in 1908. At this time he disassociated himself from his liquor business. He had served as head of the Iowa Liquor Dealer's Association.

Lyons was elected mayor in 1912. Accounts of the period credit his success with his knowledge of law. He obtained his legal education piecemeal while engaged in business and later from the Sprague Correspondence School. Lyons received a Bachelor of Law degree in 1904.
