STRENG, William (Rev.)
STRENG, William (Rev.) (Auburn, NB--Dubuque, IA, Oct. 30, 1983). Streng held the position of professor of Christian education at WARTBURG THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY from 1951 to 1979. During this time he served as the dean of students (1966-1970) and dean of faculty (1970-1971).
Streng held a multitude of assignments. Between 1951 and 1970 he was an adviser on the Board of Parish Education for the American Lutheran Church and a member of the Commission of Education for the American Association of Theological Schools between 1964 and 1968. Streng served as chairman of the board of publication for the American Lutheran Church between 1971 and 1978 and chairman of the editorial council of the Lutheran Quarterly and the Dictionary of International Biography from 1966 to 1972.
In 1961 Streng served on the Lutheran World Federation Assignment to Europe. Two years later, his assignment took him to South America and Africa.
A prolific author, Streng wrote many books including Be Alive at the request of the American Lutheran Church to be used as a resource and study guide in congregational renewal. Streng received many awards including the Frederik Schoitz Award in 1973 and the Alumni Award from Wartburg College in 1981.
