ECK, Nicholas
ECK, Nicholas. (Germany, Nov. 21, 1848--Dubuque, IA, June 24, 1908). Eck came to America as a child and lived in other areas before coming to Dubuque. At the age of fourteen, he enlisted in the CIVIL WAR and was honored for his bravery in Co. A 178th NY Volunteers as a drummer boy. In such a position, his drum beats signaled the troops.
He resided here nine years working as the superintendent of the BRADLEY BROTHERS cigar factory before his death.
