ICE BRIDGE. Even after the construction of the HIGH BRIDGE across the MISSISSIPPI RIVER, an "ice bridge" referred to the ice on the river being thick enough to support teams of horses and wagons moving between Illinois and Iowa or Iowa and Wisconsin.
