HANUS, Jerome G. (Butler Co., NB, 1940-- ). One of Dubuque's ARCHBISHOPS. Hanus made his profession as a Benedictine monk on September 1, 1961. In 1973 he received a Master of Arts degree from Princeton University and then taught Christian ethics at Conception Seminary College until 1987.
Hanus was elected abbot of the Benedictine Community at Conception on January 5, 1977. Active in the government of the Swiss-American Congregation of the Benedictines, Hanus became its president in 1984. Pope John Paul II appointed him the seventh Ordinary of the Diocese of St. Cloud, Minnesota. Hanus’ appointment to the ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBUQUE was announced on August 23, 1994.
