THE LEAP YEAR SOCIETY | THE LEAP YEAR SOCIETY. Announced in 1860, the society was formed by some "enterprising ladies" of Dubuque as a secret organization. A regular constitution was written and a motto chosen: "Fun In, and Fun Out." No gentlemen could attend the regularly scheduled monthly meetings. The newspaper article on the organization said that the objects of the organization included taking gentlemen on rides to parties and on "pleasure excursions of all sorts." | ||
