According to current sheriff Joe Kennedy, Runde retired in October 2010, Don Vrotsos was sheriff from 2010 until 2016, and then Joseph L. Kennedy took over in 2016.
J. O’Hea Cantillon actually died on Monday, March 31, 1879. His obituary appears the next day in the Dubuque Daily Herald at https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=4sRCAAAAIBAJ&sjid=WKsMAAAAIBAJ&pg=1791%2C5167895.
Cantillon served as sheriff after Ernst Young died in office in October 1872, but only for a few weeks until his successor Michael Liddy was elected in November 1872.
