In May, 1997 the airline voluntarily grounded its planes after the Federal Aviation Administration alleged the line flew "unairworthy" planes and allowed improperly trained individuals to perform maintenance work. In late May, the FFA allowed the airline to resume service one plane at a time. An announcement was made on June 14, 1997 that United Express would resume its full weekly schedule of twenty-six non-stop flights between Dubuque and Chicago. (1)
