He served as chairman and director of the United Way, director of the American Red Cross, president and director of the Alverno Housing Group, chairman of the board and director of the Dubuque Savings and Loan Association, director of the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce, trustee of [[FINLEY HOSPITAL (THE)]], as well as a founding director of Junior Achievement of the Tri-States. He was a long-time member of Rotary International.
