HARRIMAN, W. E. (Danvers, MA, Mar. 16, 1820--Dubuque, IA, Mar. 1, 1923). Harriman emigrated to Iowa and located in Dubuque in May, 1855. He taught school for a short time, then entered the grocery trade. In 1866, he worked in the hat, cap and fur trade and continued in that business for thirteen years. He also held the office of Assistant Assessor of Internal Revenue.

Harriman was prominently connected with the Order of the I.O.O.F. and in 1880 was Grand Master of the order in the State of Iowa.
