William Carter

CARTER, William. (Jessamine Co., KY, Apr. 5, 1806--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 6, 1883). Carter arrived in Dubuque during September 1832, and began MINING activities in the spring of 1833.

In 1862 with Caleb H. BOOTH and R. O. Chaney, Carter constructed the Dubuque Shot Manufactory, their SHOT manufacturing works. Carter served as the company superintendent.
