NOEL, John B. (Gordon's Ferry (Dubuque County), IA, Aug. 3, 1872--Dubuque, IA, 1957). Noel, the son of John N. NOEL was educated in the First Ward FRANKLIN SCHOOL and graduated from the DUBUQUE HIGH SCHOOL in 1889.
For a year, Noel clerked in the John Wilson retail grocery, then went with the FARLEY AND LOETSCHER MANUFACTURING COMPANY as machine hand and remained there for thirteen years.
Noel again clerked in a grocery store and then returned to the Farley-Loetscher company two years. He left that for employment with the Knapp-Stone Company for two years. A third time he returned to the Farley-Loetscher company and in 1899 began clerking for Mettel Bros., wholesale and retail grocers. and
Noel remained with them until he and A. E. Wagner, an uncle, began their business, Noel & Wagner, a retail grocery, at 1850 Couler Avenue in 1901.
