VANCE, Janet. (Dubuque, IA- ). First woman in Iowa to be inducted into the Brotherhood of the Arrow (BOY SCOUTS). In 1989 Vance completed her twentieth year as a volunteer with Boy Scouts in Dubuque. In recognition of her efforts, she received the George Meany Award from the Dubuque Federation of Labor; the Commissioners Arrowhead, Silver Beaver, District Award for Merit; and St. George Award for service to the community, youth and scouting from the Scouts.
Vance was involved with the Neighborhood Watch Program, Badger Blood Bank, Cancer and Heart funds, and the North Dubuque Improvement Association. She also served four years as a union steward for the food service workers in the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT.
