McGeehan became the president, chief executive officer and director of American Trust in 1983 and the president of AMTRUST, Inc. in 1985. One of the four founders of DUBUQUE MAIN STREET, he served as the president of the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE in 1988-1989. In this capacity, he initiated the annual "Business Forecast Luncheon." He remained a member of its board for seven years. McGeehan was a former member of the GREATER DUBUQUE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION.
