KAUFMAN, Alda. (Munich, Germany, Aug. 12, 1946--  ). Artist. A member and former director of the [[DUBUQUE MUSEUM OF ART]] and a Signature Member of the Iowa Watercolor Society, Kaufman was a celebrated local watercolor artist. Her paintings, emphasizing design and value rather than subject matter, graced many homes and galleries and regularly won prizes in competition.

A part-time medical technologist at [[MEDICAL ASSOCIATES]], she painted on a weekly basis with the local Tuesday Morning Group for support and inspiration and participated in many one person, group and juried shows.
Finding watercolor suited to her personality and talents, she experimented with new surfaces not normally used with watercolors and occasionally adding some mixed media. Although she painted a variety of subject matter, Kaufman preferred to concentrate on the local and familiar and liked to emphasize design in her works.
Kaufman was a signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society and Iowa Artists.
Her works are owned by [[MEDIAL ASSOCIATES]], [[UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE]], Grand River Center, [[LORAS COLLEGE]], Wendt Center, [[FINLEY HOSPITAL]], The Mississippi River Museum, The Dubuque Racing Association, several local restaurants and banks, and many private collectors. Her paintings were featured on two [[JULIEN'S JOURNAL]] covers and published in the International Artist's book "100 Ways to Paint People."


She painted with the local Tuesday Group since 1978. She was associated with The Art Studio at Fountain Park where she painted with six other Dubuque artists.
