IRISH, Thomas J. (Iowa City, IA-Los Angeles, CA, Oct. 20, 1935). Educator. Irish served four generations of Dubuque residents as an educator in the Dubuque public schools during his sixty-three-year career. He came to Dubuque in 1867 as the principal of the Fourth Ward School. He later held the same position for fifty-six years in the Third Ward School ([[PRESCOTT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL]]) until his retirement in 1923. Irish was elected treasurer of the Northeastern Iowa Teachers Association in 1907.

IRISH, Thomas J. (Iowa City, IA, Feb. 7, 1841-Los Angeles, CA, Oct. 20, 1935). Irish began his career in education by opening a school in Iowa City at the age of twenty. His success there brought him to Dubuque in 1867 as the principal of the Fourth Ward School. He later held the same position for fifty-six years in the Third Ward School (PRESCOTT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL) until his retirement in 1923. Irish was elected treasurer of the Northeastern Iowa Teachers Association in 1907.
