RIVER DAYS. A city-wide, week-long program to be named "River Days" was proposed by the Vacationland Committee of the Chamber of Commerce in May 1962. Planned for the summer of 1963, the activities would involve the industrial park and downtown areas.
Events considered for the program included water ski shows, boat tours, sky-diving exhibitions, fireworks, decorated store fronts, street dances, parades, outdoor art displays, city tours, and carnival and helicopter rides. Cooperation was asked of clubs, organizations, business and all citizens.
It was suggested that an independent River Days Executive Committee be formed including a "Commodore," "Vice-Commodore," and five to eight members.
