LONGE (Mr.). (Unknown). Miner. Father Samuel MAZZUCHELLI stated that LEAD mines on the western side of the MISSISSIPPI RIVER had first been worked by a Mr. Longe, the predecessor of Jean Marie CARDINAL.
Mazzuchelli quoted this account from a Canadian who claimed to have been with Julien DUBUQUE for nearly twenty years. No record has been found of anyone by this name being in this area so early in history.
