The Fraternal Order Orioles is a social organization that was organized in August 1910. It was previously known as the American Order of Owls until the name was changed at the national convention that year in Rochester, New York. The change was made at the suggestion of Dubuque native, George Stuber, a past president of the Owls and one of the original supreme board of trustees. (1)
The Fraternal Order Orioles is a social organization that was organized in August 1910. It is comprised of men and women who want to make a difference in their respective communities by serving the community in a variety of ways.  On the local level, Nests and Auxiliaries sponsor various fund raising events for members and their families; provide food for the needy during the holidays; support local projects, such as the YMCA/YWCA, rehabilitation centers, hospice care, etc.; award scholarships to members or their immediate family members so they can continue their education; as well as participate in many other functions.


In 1923 [[STUBER, George P.|George P. STUBER]] of Dubuque was re-elected for the eleventh consecutive term as grand trustee of the order at its national convention in Reading, Pennsylvania.
On November 27, 1911 the Dubuque lodge chose a building at the northeast corner of Clay and 16th [[STREETS]] as a permanent home. Many renovations were planned. (3)
