Directly inside a back door, the pool, measuring 15 feet long, 7.5 feet wide, and 3.5 to 5 feet deep, was originally filled with rainwater. Children unable to swim wore a flotation device attached to a cable strung across the pool. Garland's daughter, a student of athletics in college, gave neighborhood children swimming lessons in the pool during her summer vacation.
