KRAKOW, Carl C. (Dubuque, IA, June 2, 1887--Dubuque, IA, Sept. 27, 1937). Naval commander. Krakow, graduated from the naval academy with honors in 1907, made his first round-the-world tour on the U.S.S. Missouri. He rose rapidly through the ranks to become a commander on June 6, 1924.

During World War I, Krakow was the executive officer on the U.S.S. Cleveland that convoyed supplies to European ports. He served as the executive officer aboard the U.S.S. Denebola during the Turkish uprising in 1923. Krakow was later the executive officer on the U.S.S. Dobbin that served as the "mother ship" for eighteen destroyers. Krakow completed his military service as the officer in charge of the U.S.S. Vega.
